WALKING DOWN THE STREET…………

Walking down the street in downtown Phoenix yesterday stirred up a mixed bag of emotion within me. I have lived in Phoenix most of my life. Moving here as a child in the early 60’s. And spent a few of my post high school years living in the inner city. over the years I have witnessed the many changes that have occurred.

Yesterday was different. I have spent the past several year in suburbia. Shielded from the inner city plight. I have forgotten about all the homeless and transient people. I have not seen all the litter, trash, and graffiti that dominates the inner city streets and buildings. And there is an added calamity, many abandon buildings and storefronts, where once thriving businesses where. A result of recession so they say. Adding to that the neighborhood  where I resided  and knew so well now aging in decline.

Can we blame it all on recession? I wonder. Have we just givin up? Do we just not care? No pride in what is ours?  You  tell me. Personally, I don’t see this as the end of the road, but a beginning , a new challenge. Like the symbolic Phoenix. Out of the fire and ash…………..

  1. Hi Nick,Recession does affect some businesses which are not built on good business principle. Similarly people who love to borrow money also get into trouble during a recession. You have described the street scene very vividly. All of us age over a period of time but accepting the age factor is the most difficult thing.I am sure you are living a calm peaceful place far away from the din and commotion of the city.Recession never lasts although it creates havoc in the lives of people. Soon the economy will pick up and start going up again. As you said it will rise like a Phoenix.Best wishes,Joseph
