Memorial Day 2015 is…12v./

Memorial Day 2015 is rapidly approaching. What is it all about , really? Is it one of those Government payed holidays? Just a time to BBQ, drink beer, and socialize with family and friends? A day to watch the game? The beginning of Summer? Any number or combination of these event will be happening on Monday, but it isn’t  really what Memorial Day is truly about.

Let me show you a picture of what would express Memorial Day. I see a middle American family of four sitting a the breakfast table on Memorial Day. Most of the time enjoying their time together. but today is different. Instead of the four of them seated around the table there are only three… Why three you may ask? The oldest son had chosen a military career and right out of high school joined the Army. Soon after boot camp he was deployed to Afghanistan. A month later they got the dreaded news he was out on patrol. They were ambushed and  all killed…

Quietly they finished their breakfast and prepared for their drive to the cemetery…

This is one case scenario. I know there are thousands upon thousands of stories from one  losing  loved ones on this warring planet.  Clearly this is not a day of celebration, but a day of mourning…

I am sitting here thinking… Trying to remember a single moment without war… I could not think of a single day that someone isn’t killing someone or someone is killing them.   Cold War, Vietnam War,  War on Terror… Kill or be Killed, isn’t that the bottom line?

Let’s consider this for a moment. Who are the ones killing or being killed? It certainly isn’t  the ones orchestrating.Dirty their hands with with human blood when they can direct others to do so. People are the pawns that  are manipulated in the game of war. What is hard to accept the fact that those ones trying to kill you are just trying to protect their loved ones as your are protecting yours. They too are pawns in this game. Their loved one mourn their dead as we do. War is senseless killing.

I want to establish accountability. Can you see Joe or Jane soldier waking up one morning and  saying today I am going to leave my home and family and go to another country and begin to systematically kill the locals? No I rather think there is some one or ones orchestrating. Making the decisions . Barking down the orders. And for love and family and country the pawns on both sides engage each other. And till death do us part. nick
